Courses Offered At Holy Child College of Education

Since the beginning of 1960, according to the college, they have run a number of courses for their students with each of them lasting for a number of years. For instance, in the same year 1960, the college ran two years programme which was called Post-Middle Certificate ‘B.’ Another four years course was introduced in 1963 which was also known as Home Science Bias Course. Then, by 1969, another two-year programme was introduced known as Specialist Course for Certificate ‘A’.
Other courses that have been run at Holy Child College of Education include;
- Vocational/Specialist Course;
- Post-Secondary Certificate ‘A’;
- Modular Course for Untrained Teachers;
- Diploma in Basic Education (Sandwich).
Each of these programmes was two-year courses. The only other programme that ran for four years was Diploma in Basic Education for Untrained Teachers (UTDBE) which was introduced in 2006.
Presently, based on the information contained on the College’s official website, there are two options as touching the courses offered in Holy Child College of Education which prospective students can choose from. Under the Basic Education programme, there are two diploma courses in operation that run for three years each, and another two courses under the post diploma programme that also run for two years each. The breakdown of the programmes are explained below:
Diploma programme in Basic Education
Under this programme, there are two options that prospective students can choose from. They are the General programme and the Early Child Education programme. While the General programme was introduced to the College in 2004, the Early Child Education programme was introduced in 2008. Depending on the course a student is applying for, he or she either gets a diploma certificate in Basic Education (general) or a diploma certificate in Basic Education (early child education) at the end of the training programme.
Post Diploma in Basic Education
This programme was introduced to the College in 2012 with the expectation of it running for two years. Then, in 2016, it was split into two courses which are Evening Classes for Diploma/B.Ed in Basic Education and Early Childhood Education, and Untrained Teachers Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
