The Management and Council of the University of Education Winneba has called on Amnesty International Global to take disciplinary action against two of its Board members, Dr. Vincent Adzahlie Mensah and Samuel Agbotsey since they are not pursuing the core mandate of the organization but rather their partisan interest.
Speaking at a press briefing at the University of Education Winneba, the Acting Vice Chancellor of UEW Prof. Afful Broni said these two personalities among other senior members of the University are peddling allegations of disunity at the University without basis.
He noted that the allegations by Amnesty International which are trending on social media about the institution is baseless and must be treated with utmost disgust by all.
Meanwhile, some Board Members of Amnesty International have been responding to allegations by Management and Council of the University of Education Winneba.
The Board Members denied the allegations saying they are untrue.
Speaking on GBC’s Current Affiars Programme, “Behind the News,” the members described the comments and allegations as unfortunate.
The Board Chairman of Amnesty International, George Aggrey, expressed worry about the allegations.
In a related development, the University Teachers Association of Ghana, UTAG, have resolved to put to rest recent tensions between the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba and some Lecturers.
The tension has led to the sacking and forced eviction of some lecturers.
Speaking on “Behind the News,” President of UTAG, Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah said the association is waiting for a favorable response from the University Council to resolve the issue out of court.
