UG Ranks 182 on Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018:

The University of Ghana has been ranked 182 on the Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018, becoming once again, the leading University in West Africa and in Ghana to attain this rank.
The Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018 includes only institutions in countries classified by the FTSE as “advanced emerging”, “secondary emerging” or “frontier”.
Now in its fifth year, the 2018 ranking parts with the ‘BRICS’ acronym in the title to recognise the strength and potential of a diverse range of emerging economies.
The rankings use the same performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings to judge institutions on their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. But they are recalibrated to reflect the development priorities of universities in emerging economies.
Five pillars make up the criteria used for the ranking: teaching (the learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation), Citations (research influence), International Outlook (staff, students, research) and Industry Income (knowledge transfer).
The scores for adjudging University of Ghana were: teaching, 17.7%; Research, 18.3%; Citations, 20.4%; International Outlook, 48.9% and Industry Income, 34.2%. The overall score was 23.2%.
With respect to the world rankings, University of Ghana was ranked in the 801-1000 band, making the University attain the 11th position, with 13 other universities. South African universities maintained the top five positions.
